Worship

Written by Amanda Allums

There is nothing that can move my soul like music! I can’t cook, clean, or exercise without music. Music has a way of moving you, motivating you, making you cry, smile, and laugh. There are so many kinds of music that if I were to list them all, you would be reading the list for days.
Some examples are reggae, rock, classical, rap, oldies, R&B, Latin, heavy metal, country, and so many more! But there is one type of music that is in a category of its own because it’s not about anything else other than Jesus Christ, and that is worship.

Worship takes our focus off of us and puts it on God. Worship is dying to self and taking our focus off of whatever is going on in our life (good or bad) and putting our full attention on God. We lay down the cares of the world at His feet and give God praise no matter how we feel about anything going on in our lives or in this world. Why? Because even if He never did anything else for us, He’s already done enough! Every hint of darkness has to flee when we worship so we are free to receive whatever God needs to speak to us in those moments.

I made a list of things that come to mind about worship and how it stands alone among all other types of music because worship isn’t about the music, it’s about the heart.
It’s all about God.
We can all sing in unity even if we are dealing with different issues.
No matter what season we are in, the message remains the same.
We agree that God is always good, always faithful, and will come through no matter how we are feeling.
We humble ourselves while lifting up our Savior.
Worship music draws people from every culture, race, age, and nation together. It is unifying.
It is inspiring and can bring forth vision.
It replaces chaos with peace.
It replaces mourning with comfort.
It replaces sadness with joy.
It gives hope to the hopeless.
It draws people to their knees.
It ushers in a Spirit you can feel.
It creates an atmosphere where people can be healed, delivered, and saved.
It builds up our faith.
You can be a good singer or a bad singer, and it’s still a joyful noise to the Lord.
Worship doesn’t even need instruments.
Worship is the only music that will be sung on this earth and in heaven.
Worship is the only time you will find people excited to sing about death, because we know that death is just the beginning and we have hope for an eternal future with the One we sing about!
Worship is eternal because our God is eternal and He is the One we worship.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” –John 4:23
