Some people may be sitting and thinking. Why would a church have a blog? What is the purpose? What is the point? Well, I most certainly understand those questions and before we moved forward with our Revival Center Blog these are the same questions that I asked myself. I think that it all starts with what many blogs are all about: they describe a journey.
The journey that is found in blogs across the internet can range from theology to books to music to travel to food and everywhere in between. Many blogs document the experiences of an individual through its specific focus. So how does this apply in a church context? When you look at a church we are on a journey together, not just as individuals, but as a corporate body. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:27 that we are "the body of Christ" and in 1 Peter 2:5 it says that "you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house." So then we as a church are the in community, as a part of the same body, being built up as a spiritual house. This means that we at the Revival Center are all a part of this journey together and this is the journey that we want to share here.
The purpose of this blog is to express our journey in written form. The journey of life together. The journey of growing deeper in the things of God. The journey of holiness. The journey of changing seasons. Expressing the ebbs and flows of life in our community. In today's day there is an overwhelming need for content that is not only thoughtful but encouraging and centered around a desire to give glory to God.
In a 2020 Pew Research study, 53% of social media users said that they use social media as a platform to receive news. Although this may be a seemingly unrelated statistic to the article, it is an important fact. Its importance is found in people looking to social media and media in general as a significant source of information and (to put it another way) a place to find truth. We do not intend for this to become a blog about purely current events or just like everything else, but we want to be a place of hope, encouragement, and truth in the sea of ideas and news that people are wading through each and every day. We truly do believe that God can use many different platforms to spread the Good News of the gospel. This is our purpose to share with people inside and outside the Body of Christ what it means for our lives to be shaped by the love of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the future, you will be able to read articles for several contributors that are in or connected to the Revival Center. They will be writing on topics relevant to our church and our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. We look forward to having each one of you joining us on the journey here at the Revival Center blog, because our journey is your journey as well. Colossians 3:17 states, "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Also 1 Corinthians 10:31 states, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." So this blog will be written in the name of the Lord Jesus and done purely for the glory of God.
