Jesus

Written by Jason Allums

Revelation 1:12-13 NKJV:
Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.

Jesus Christ captivates me in every way possible. This updated impression in this first chapter of Revelation gives us glorious insight. John describes a very different Christ than the one born in a manger. Having heard a loud trumpet blast, John turned to see a shining vision of the risen, ascended, and glorified Lord Jesus, dressed in judicial robes in preparation for the judgements that are soon to be carried out. This glorious vision of the Son of Man shows Him standing in the midst of seven candlesticks representative of the full Body of Christ, the Christian Church, which He Himself is building today.

We must understand our Lord’s role is a changing one in the future. Right now He is the Savior, but soon He will be the Judge. And when He begins His judgments, He is judging based off of one guiding principal. A person will either be covered by Calvary’s Blood or he will not be covered. No middle ground. No appeals court.

Notice how John describes Jesus: His eyes were as flames of fire. His feet were like unto fine brass. His voice was the sound of many waters. His countenance was the sun shining in all its strength, brighter than the actual sun. When Christ came to Bethlehem through the womb of the virgin Mary, He was God incarnate (God clothed in a garment of human flesh). He is no longer in that form. He is once again the Word of God, present at creation and present at judgment.

Is this the Christ you think you are fooling? That you are pushing out of your life? That you limit to a few hours on Sunday morning, maybe? Do you really think you can put off this great God in such a way? Greater men and civilizations than ours have attempted it before, and the verdict is always rendered: “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Christ cannot be deceived. He sees right through you.

His voice speaks now, bidding you come to the well of salvation and the mercy seat of forgiveness. This is the Jesus I love and serve! He is able to keep me, to deliver me! This is the message that I am absolutely devoted to sharing as long as I have breath in my lungs. Be captivated by this Jesus today and help me captivate the world with this Jesus!

I close with this: Praise God! Sing the Hallelujah Chorus! Ring the bells of a thousand cathedrals! Line the avenues with millions praising the Creator! For this Jesus of Nazareth is now at the right hand of God, interceding for me. And He is calling for you today!
