“In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” A few days ago I decided to flip back to Genesis and read the account of creation and I didn't even make it past verse one before becoming overjoyed and overwhelmed with the love of God. I didn’t understand why at first but then the Lord began to minister to me. When you read, “In The Beginning,” it strongly emphasizes that this was in fact a real beginning. This was not speculation or a thought, but the truth. We have the privilege of serving a God that desired us to know who we are, what we are, and where we came from, from the very beginning of time. God did not want us wondering these questions or us being unsure. So he wrote us a book.
From the beginning to the end, this book, the Bible, explains it all. From creation and everything being good, to sin entering the world and the long journey of the Savior of the world, Jesus, dying on the cross and atoning for that sin. How awesome is it that we have access to the origin of our lives and then the redemptive story and salvation of humanity? Other ancient religions view history as an endless series of cycles. But the Bible presents history in a linear way, with a definite beginning and a God-given goal. God had a plan in his creation and he will carry that plan out.
Although God could have ruled and redeemed planet Earth on His own, He chose to include mortals in His plan. Think about it! He could have limited his creation to animals of instinct–but he didn’t. He created human beings with a will of their own, men and women who must choose to follow His leadership according to His plan. God always brings others with Him. Since God is the source of all that exists, human beings and nature are not self-existent, but we owe our lives to him.
God always initiated. He initiated the creation of the universe. He initiated the birth of our species. And he initiated the redemption process, extending Himself to us so that we might be saved. Why? Well, because he desires to spend eternity and to do life with his creation. But it all must be brought back to the right standings with Him. The King of the universe wants to walk, talk, and be with you. Name another God like this. You simply cannot. This God is matchless in all of His ways. And from the beginning of time we owe our lives to him. Take some time this week to read and meditate on how incredible the account of creation is. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
