Promises are mere worthless words until the time of fulfillment. Promises are bound to be broken in this world. That is why we cannot lean on them. The way to fulfill promises is simply to bring accountability to them. Joshua 21:45 states, “Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” And that is exactly what we find God to do as He holds himself accountable to the promises that He gives us.
There are over 7,000 promises in the Bible that God has between himself and humankind. Though we see promises each day broken by man, we see none of these promises in God’s word broken, but rather fulfilled. If we see that God has fulfilled every word that has come from His lips, why do we struggle receiving them and believing them in our own lives? I think one of the reasons is simply trust. Trusting that God is going to do what He said he was going to do. You see, the issue does not lie with God, but rather lies with ourselves. We say, “If God keeps his promises then why do I not see them in my life?” I challenge you with this question: re we being obedient to what He has asked us to do? We are waiting for him to bless us for instance, but have we given cheerfully? Do we walk in unity? We want the windows of heaven to be opened up over our lives, as it says in Malachi 3:10, but yet we have not brought the full tithe into the storehouse. You see, everyone wants to go to heaven, but they do not want to live the righteous life that Jesus asked us to live.
It is not simply just about receiving the promises of God, more than it is walking in the promises of God. We must do our part to help bring fulfillment to those promises. Jesus tells us to seek Him and we will find Him. That is a promise, but if we never seek Him, then of course we will never find Him.
Today we can choose to walk in the fulfillment of all of the promises of God. We can choose to trust Him and lean on the words that He has spoken instead of what the world has spoken. This is where we can find our hope. In the fact that every word that God speaks over our lives will come to pass. Through those words it has brought us the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We can walk in that promise today simply by repenting of our sins and believing in our hearts that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and we shall be saved. The promise is there, now what will we do with it?
