We all know the story of Elijah fleeing to Horeb, but I never looked at it as deeply as I have in the last few days!
Elijah was afraid that he was about to die because of what Jezebel had said: “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” He had lost sight that God was with him and had commanded him to do all of the things for which Jezebel wanted him dead. Elijah then ran and when he got to Beersheba, he said, “I have had enough, Lord, take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”
I don’t know about you, but I have felt just like Elijah. About to be really honest here I have prayed that the Lord would just go ahead and take my life because I was not good enough and was exhausted from trying to take everything into my own hands. God sent an angel down to encourage Elijah to eat and drink, and then Elijah rested again. The angel continued to encourage him until he was strong enough to travel forty days and forty nights to the “mountain of God.”
This story shows me that even through a depressive season, God will still use you! You are still valuable to Him! Even though you are down, there will always be that “gentle whisper”. We have to be able to tell the difference between the enemy's lies and God’s truth, friend! When we are feeling sad or low, we have to put on something uplifting and fight back! The enemy wants us to feel alone, he wants us to feel rejected, like we are never going to be enough, but these are all lies from the pits of hell!
Even when we are tired and so ready to give up, God isn’t! He can give us strength to continue even when we feel like we have nothing left. There will always be a Jezebel around, trying to scare you or maybe even kill you spiritually. But we have something so much more powerful, and that is the Holy Spirit. There will always be a journey, but we can’t go on that journey alone. So friend, even when we are disappointed in ourselves, we have to keep going and never give up! Because our God is not finished with us yet!
“Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”
Psalm 40:5
