2 Corinthians 3:2-6 says,You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but tablets of human hearts. Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
In this scripture Paul is writing to the church at Corinth to encourage the believers there and to speak against those that were opposing him and God’s Word. He is also writing to show what the true character of a Christian is. I love the verse that says we “show that we are a letter from Christ written not with ink but with the Spirit and not on tablets of stone but tablets of human hearts.” It gives me a vivid visual in my mind of how God uses us and how alive His Word is through his Spirit through us. It is so humbling to me that God would choose to use me.
As I am getting ready for the mission trip to Tanzania, these scriptures are comforting to me and a reminder that I do not have to depend on myself to do anything. We do not do anything out of our own competence or understanding, but we are to be willing vessels for the Lord to use as He wills. If we are faithful and obedient to what God tells us to do, He is faithful to come alongside us and help us with what we can’t do. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”
I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to go on this trip and share Jesus with the people of Tanzania, but in all transparency I have been battling some anxiety and fear…fear of not being good enough or prepared enough. Fear of leaving Jacob, Jake, and other family. Fear of so many unknowns, but it is just like the enemy to come and distract and attack. 2 Corinthians 5:5 says, “Now it is God that has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” I have been standing on this Word the last few weeks. Verse 7 goes on to say, “We live by faith, not by sight.” I have faith that God has got this and is going to do amazing things and I am honored and humbled to get to be a small part of it! I pray that when people read our heart tablets, they see a letter of Christ and His love wherever we go.
