I was looking out the window a few weeks ago when a storm was coming and the winds were pretty strong. I noticed that the taller trees were blowing and their limbs were breaking and falling to the ground; but when I looked down at the ground at the shorter plants and grass, I noticed they were shaking but they were not struggling and breaking like the taller trees.
By this point, you can probably tell where I am going with this because, when the Word of God is in you, you tend to see most everything in the spiritual realm and God will use even small acts of nature to minister to you like this circumstance ministered to me. As I stood there looking out the window, I thought about all the ways we react when things happen to us. When a tornado comes, what were we taught to do in school? To get low and crawl under our desk.
Where do we go when a bad storm is coming? A basement under the house if you have one; or get as low to the ground as you can. I was born and raised in Florida and my playground was the beach, so I was taught to dive under a big wave when it comes upon you so you don’t get pummeled by it. So basically, when disaster strikes, we are taught to get as low as possible in most cases.
This tells me that when life gets hard and trouble comes our way, as long as we make ourselves small and allow our God to be the big God that He is, then we may be pressed down by the trouble and trials of life, but we will not be crushed. Just like Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:7-9,“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
So next time a storm of life comes your way, cast your cares upon the Lord and allow Him to carry you through. Get low and pray in your secret place, and you will then be like the grass that is shaken but not destroyed.
