Storms

Written by Kara Wallis

When storms in life happen I naturally tend to want to run from them and hide until they subside. It’s like I think if I stay away long enough the problem will be gone when I decide to go back. We often run because of fear, anger, or even indifference. We run hoping someone will come after us and find us–and God is faithful to do just that! Psalms 57:3 says, ”He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me, God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.” He is so faithful through everything!

God knows and loves us. We are never alone through any of the storms that we go through. Instead of trying to run away from our problems we need to run to God and cast every care and anxiety on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says, ”Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” There’s nothing that takes God by surprise or catches him off guard. Even in the midst of the storms He is in control.

In this world we are going to go through trials and troubles, but Jesus makes all the difference. As hard as life can be, I think about how much harder it would be without Him. I have been going through a problem and thrown my hands up and said I’m done trying to do what’s right, look at what all is going wrong in my life, but immediately been reminded of how God has always been there for me and has never left me. He has loved me when I was completely unlovable and did not deserve it. Romans 5:8 says, ”But God demonstrates own love for us in this: that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” I’m so thankful for this unconditional love that kept pursuing me even before I accepted it.

When I am going through a problem I try to remember that the storms of this life are temporary and keep my focus on God and the reward we have in Him! There is a quote from C.S. Lewis where he says, “Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace in difficulties.” I am so thankful for His peace!

Romans 8:31 says, ”What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us,  who can be against us?” So I hope that if you are going through a storm today this brings encouragement to your soul. Don’t give up and keep going after God through every circumstance in your life. Through every storm God remains in control!
