As Christians, we should desire all the gifts that God has to offer us, right? We should also desire all the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control).
Have you ever prayed for patience? Well, I have and I thought I knew what I was getting into when I prayed that prayer; but little did I know the kind of year that was coming because I prayed to God asking for more patience. It was not an easy ask or an easy road getting there, but I do not regret asking for patience one bit because Jesus knew my heart and His desire was for me to be patient too. His Word tells us what patience does for a person and I knew that I wanted that. “And patience produces character, and character produces hope. And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts. He gave us his love through the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to us” (Romans 5:4-6). Needless to say, it worked and God answered!
You should never allow fear to hinder you from asking for something that God wants to give you just because you are afraid of how your answer may come about. Yes, sometimes you will be tested before God just hands something over to you. But it’s always for our good, and He will always see you through because the ultimate goal is to draw you closer to Him and make you a better person in the process. So don’t ever allow fear to stop you from asking for a good thing and a blessing that God wants to give you and use in your life and ultimately use to help others as well.
I encourage you to take everything to God in prayer. There’s nothing too small or too big for our God and He desires to have communication with you. He hears you and desires to bless you. All we have to do is ask. If it’s something a little scary to ask (like patience, or something you are needing life-changing guidance about) don’t allow fear to make you take things in your own hands. Don’t allow fear to hinder your blessings. Don’t not ask God for something for fear of how you may be tested in order to produce the fruit of what you are asking for. If you desire a gift that God has told us in His Word we should ask for, then He will see to it that He answers that prayer in His perfect timing and according to His perfect will.
