Goodness of God

All my life you have been faithful.
All my life you have been so, so good.
With every breath that I am able, oh I will sing of the goodness of God.
Yeah I will sing, of the goodness of God.

My friend Amanda sings this song so amazingly! It is one of my favorite songs and it is an anthem for me in my life.

Like everyone else, I can look over my life and see where God has been so faithful in every part of it. Even through the hardest battles and the loneliest places I have walked, I can still say God is good.

You see, God's goodness does not hinge on my circumstances. His goodness does not change just because life gets hard. His goodness is everlasting. He is good. It is just who He is.

Psalm 27:13 says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” When we put our hope in Jesus, we have the assurance to know He walks with us through every situation, good and bad. In the difficult seasons, we have hope that He will bring good out of the circumstances we face. Through times of challenge, He will cover us and our faith will be made stronger, we will grow wiser, and His peace will be ours.

I cannot tell you of the times God has carried me through difficult times in my life. I have not always understood why things have happened and there have been plenty of times I have wished the places I have had to walk were not part of my journey. But I have learned to trust God no matter what. I know that He works it all out for good and I have assurance that He will bring me through it.

Often, I think of the many stories of David in the Bible, like how faithful he was in tending the sheep and how he slayed Goliath with full confidence in God to take the giant down. One of my favorite examples was how David encouraged himself in the Lord during one of the hardest moments he faced. It reminds me that encouraging ourselves is vital when we walk through hard seasons. Remembering the goodness of God in our lives helps us know with confidence that God is faithful in every season and that He will bring us through; it helps us respond to the things we face with the hope of Jesus instead of the fear of this world!
