“And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.”
–Romans 8:27-30
I read something recently that stated, “Jerusalem was Your end, but our beginning.” How incredibly real is that? When we think about Palm Sunday we think about the beginning of Holy week, the beginning of our stories being written all because Jesus gave His life for us and our sins.
In Mark 10:32 it says that, “Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were amazed, but those who followed were afraid.” Jesus predicted the betrayal of the chief priests, predicted that the Gentiles would mock Him, spit on Him, and flog Him, eventually leading to His death! He knew all that was coming, He knew that His ending was our beautiful beginning!
Later on in Mark 10 Jesus says to the disciples:
“You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The one and only Son knew the reasoning for it all. He knew that He was sent to earth to show kindness and respect to others, but most importantly He was here to serve others. “But among you it will be different.” We are called to stand out against the crowd, Jesus said so. We are the ones that are meant to show the world the kindness, the love, the respect that Jesus showed all of those around Him. His ultimate mission was serving those around Him and making sure that the Word of God was told to all nations.
How incredibly selfless was He? That He knew over the next seven days, His ending was the beginning of our stories.
