Such a Time as This

Such A Time As This

Esther 4:14 says, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.” I love the story of Esther, a random Jewish girl with no country and no parents called all the way to the palace, then chosen to be queen out of so many other girls. Then she was asked to risk everything for her people. Esther had her cousin Mordecai to be her sounding board and help keep her grounded in her faith, even though he told her to keep her faith a secret at the time.

Next, a crazy chain of events happened and a terrible plot to destroy the Jews was put into action but Mordecai knew what had to be done. He told Esther it was time to speak up for their people and asked her to go before the king and ask him to spare her people. This was no easy task though, as not even the queen was allowed to approach the king unless he first initiated, or she could be put to death. I know this had to be a very hard thing for her to do, and Mordecai reminded her that just because she was in the king’s home it did not mean that her life would be spared.

I believe that Mordecai’s words of wisdom helped Esther to have the courage to do what was right, for such a time as this. I think she started to think about her life and all the circumstances that had brought her to the exact place and position she was in. Have you ever thought about why you have been through the things you have been through or maybe even current trials in your life? Just like with Esther I believe it is for such a time as this. Nothing is wasted and Jesus brings purpose to our pain.
Ephesians 2:10 says, ”For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We should not look at our lives as a series of random events. God has a plan for everything and everyone in your life. The resources we have, the people God has placed in our lives, every experience, it is all for a reason. Let us consider how all these elements can be used to serve God’s purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, ”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
