When we are following Christ and trying to seek the will of God in our lives, there are moments when we feel inadequate, unworthy, or simply not enough. These feelings of insufficiency can be overwhelming, but the Bible reminds us that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. One powerful example of this truth is found in Exodus 4:10, where Moses expresses his own feelings of inadequacy.
In Exodus 4:10, Moses says to the Lord, "Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." Moses, chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, doubted his ability to fulfill this monumental task. He was painfully aware of his limitations and feared that he was not the right person for the job.
Look at God’s response to Moses in Exodus 4:11-12, God says, "Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say." Here, God reminds Moses—and us—that He is the creator of all things, including our abilities and talents. When God calls us, He equips us with everything we need to accomplish it.
Within each of us, God has placed gifts and talents that He wants us to use for His glory. The more we seek Him and surrender ourselves to His will, we realize that our insufficiency makes way for God to get all the glory. God doesn’t look at our fleshly abilities, He sees the purpose he placed in our lives from the moment He created us. Like Moses, we can trust that when God calls us, He will equip us.
Let’s embrace our weaknesses as opportunities for God’s power to be displayed in our lives. As we begin 2025, don’t let anything stop us from doing all that God has called us to do. Let’s go spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus to as many as we can. Let’s be reminded, it’s God that does the work anyways, we just have to be a willing vessel for Him to use.
