Have you ever wrestled with thoughts in your mind that say, "you're not enough, not smart enough, not holy enough, not talented, pretty, disciplined, or worthy enough"? You don't have to answer that question because you are human and I know you have. Everyone has dealt with these thoughts and feelings in some point in their lives, and some more than others.
These inner thoughts don't always scream, sometimes they sit quietly beneath the surface. They are subtle but powerful, shaping how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and even how we approach God. The feeling of unworthiness is one of the most effective tools the enemy uses to paralyze our purpose and rob our joy.
Unworthiness is more than just low self-esteem. It's the internalized belief that we are fundamentally lacking. We are unfit to be loved, chosen, or used by God. It creates a false narrative in our minds that leads us to say this to ourselves:
"God could never use someone like me".
"I've made too many mistakes".
"Why bother trying when others are so much more capable?"
Unworthiness keeps us stuck instead of us walking in the confidence we're meant to have as children of God.
Unworthiness is not from God. In fact, the Bible tells us a very different story. The Bible is full of imperfect people who were still called, chosen, and deeply loved. Not only were they those things but God used them in mighty ways! Our worth isn't based on what we do or fail to do, it's based on who God is, and what He says about us.
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
"Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you". 1 Corinthians 3:16
These are just a few! The Bible says many more great things about you!
The antidote to unworthiness isn't more effort, it's knowing your identity. When we truly understand that we are loved without condition, and chosen despite our imperfections, we begin to live from a place of confidence, not striving. This doesn't mean we ignore growth or holiness, it means we pursue them from love, not for love.
You are worthy not because of your resume, reputation, or your record, but because of your Redeemer!
Your life matters.
Your story matters.
Thankfully, Jesus chose us because He loves us!
Walk forward today not because you're perfect, but because He is! In Him you are more than enough!
