Jesus promised His disciples that He would return one day and take them to be with Him. Two angels also let the disciples know the truth of Jesus’ return. Jesus didn’t say when He would come back, and no human has that information (Acts 1:6–7). While we can’t know when Jesus will return, we do know that Jesus is preparing a place for His followers to live with Him. He will return when everything is ready.

In Jesus’ story, five of the young women were prepared for the groom’s arrival, but five of them weren’t ready. They didn’t bring enough oil and tried to find some to purchase in the middle of the night. This story tells us that we can’t know when Jesus will return. So, we should be prepared at all times. Being ready for Jesus’ return means first asking Jesus to forgive us for the wrong things we’ve done and then living in ways that please Him.

From that time on, Christians will enjoy eternal life in Jesus’ presence.
